Zaporizhzhia continues to develop the system of support for veterans and women veterans, their family members, and the families of fallen and missing Defenders of Ukraine.

The Department of Veterans Policy of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, together with public and charitable organisations, provides a range of services that help veterans adapt to civilian life, restore their health, receive legal aid and find new employment opportunities.

Thus, on 28 October the Department of Veterans Policy of the Zaporizhzhia City Council organised for veterans, women veterans and members of their families the event “Big Monopoly: The Game That Unites”. The shared game gave an opportunity for informal communication, relaxation and psycho-emotional relief.

Over the course of the week, together with the public and charitable organisations “Doctors of the World”, “Right to Protect”, “Give Hope”, “100% Life Network” and “Caritas”, events were held for veterans and women veterans, members of their families, and the families of fallen Defenders of Ukraine. In addition, there was a psychological workshop “My Calm Place” and a meeting of the mutual support group “Living On”.

On the basis of the “Veteran Rooms” in the city's districts, throughout the week lawyers and advocates from public and charitable organisations, as well as specialists of the Free Legal Aid Centre, were at work. Veterans and members of the families of fallen and missing Defenders of Ukraine could receive consultations on various legal issues.

In the “Veteran Room” of the Khortytskyi district, a rehabilitation space operates on a permanent basis where veterans and women veterans can undergo comprehensive physical rehabilitation. In addition, on 28 October medical specialists consulted war veterans and members of their families in the “Veteran Rooms” of the Dniprovskyi, Khortytskyi and Kosmichnyi districts, as well as in the veteran space “Veteran.PRO”.

Other initiatives include rehabilitative climbing classes at the ENERGY WALL climbing gym for veterans, women veterans and members of their families, as well as an English-language conversation club for the children of war veterans.

Creative events are also organised for the youngest members of veterans' families. In particular, on 31 October, in cooperation with Panda kids.zp, “TatoHub Zaporizhzhia” and the NGO “Successful Woman”, the “Pumpkin Workshop of Wonders” took place. The children had the chance to join in creative activities, chat and spend time in a friendly atmosphere.

At the same time, the Department of Veterans Policy is working to ensure informational and digital barrier-free access. On the department's official social media pages and on the website of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, information about available services and opportunities for veterans, members of their families and the families of fallen Defenders of Ukraine is regularly published.

In the premises of the department and the veteran space “Veteran.PRO”, conditions are being created for equal access to information regardless of visitors' functional impairments or communication abilities. In addition, materials on the principles of barrier-free access, equal opportunities and the importance of building an accessible environment for everyone are being disseminated on social media.
